On the Newstand - 7th January 1989

In the archives today we go back 25 years to 1989 and this popular UK magazine (no longer in print) called Weekend.  Joan was featured on their cover at least 8 times between 1978 and 1989.
This cover which featured her Dynasty co-stars, John Forsythe and Linda Evans was a feature on the shake up of all US soap operas.

Daily Picture - Legends and Joan

This lovely picture of Joan is from the 2007 US tour of Legends, which I saw in Phoenix, Arizona.
As I enjoyed the play and have performed in theatre myself - I had to add the script to my collection.

Here's a description of Joan's character from the play.
SYLVIA GLENN - Attractive, flashy, former movie star, now around sixty. Still lots of pep and sas. Ambitious to reactivate her career, many times married, but now broke. Beneath the rather shiny veneer, there is a warm woman who shows herself when she feels secure. In films she usually played the strong, pushy type, like Crawford. She hardly ever played "a lady of breeding" She and Aretha have a special relationship which allows them to put each other "on" without any hurt feelings.

And Linda Evan's character ....

LEATRICE MONSEE - (Pronounced Mon-say) - Leatrice is around the same age, give or take a few years, as Sylvia. She is a far different kind of movie star, one who always played nuns, nurses and saints. Her public figure was always one of "goodness" but beneath the surface, she was just as strong as Sylvia. A Loretta Young or Joan Fontaine type with a reputation for sweetness but underneath lurked what came to be known as "an iron butterfly"

DVD News - Dynasty Season 7

The wait is over!! Season 7 got it's UK release on 30th January 2012, which is good news for all Dynasty fans. Having pre-ordered from Amazon.co.uk back in December, I received mine this morning, so hot off the press are the details.
Season 7 picks up the end of the previous season, with Alexis (Joan Collins) in the clutches of Blake (John Forsythe) as in his rage at the thought of losing the Carrington mansion, he goes for the jugular and viewers were left wondering whether this time, he would kill his ex-wife? But Krystle (Linda Evans)intervenes and allows Alexis to live through the season, no doubt with a plan or two up her designer sleeve.
The Season contains all 28 episodes on 7 discs. The picture on the left is from the 2 part episode "A Love Remembered", on Disc No 4.

Dynasty Daily

Most of the e-mails I receive from fans and people round the world at some stage usually ask the same question, "What do you collect of Joan?". The answer is "most things" and they cannot believe when I tell them how the collection which started with a serialisation from a National newspaper on the eve of Joan's 50th birthday back in 1983 has grown to what you see and more on the website.

I received an e-mail some weeks ago from someone who had come across the site asking if I could do a blog feature of Dynasty photos featuring Joan.
The answer would be "Yes"

Today's is a rather unusual picture of Joan with Linda during their first catfight in Alexis' studio. As you can see Alexis would grab anything to throw at Krystle - no vase remained safe when these two came to blows .....

Awards: 1983 Emmys

This photograph of the late John Forsythe with Joan and Linda Evans was taken at the 1983 Emmy Awards at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Pasadena in California on 25th September 1983.
The ceremony hosted by Eddie Murphy & Joan Rivers saw both John and Linda nominated for awards, John for Outstanding Lead Actor and Linda for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series (Dynasty),unfortunately neither of them won.

As for Joan, well it wasn't until 1984 that she was nominated for the award, in the same category as Linda, and I will feature pictures of that in a future post.
