TV: Batman

Among the many TV shows that Joan made guest appearances on in the 1960's and 1970's was Batman. She appeared in 2 episodes (no's 96 and 97 of Season 3) playing a villainess called The Siren.

Episode 96 which also starred Frank Gorshin as The Riddler, Joan's character was part of the storyline, which spilled over to the following week when she was the main villain in the episode called "The Wail of the Siren".

Original air dates 21/9/1967 and 28/9/1967. Watch out for more on these episodes in future posts.

JConthecover: Picturegoer (1953)

A British film magazine first published as "The Picturegoer" on 11 October 1913. It changed its name twice between 1914 and 1921 and in the January of that year it became a monthly magazine and continued in that format until May 1931 when it was relaunched as "Picturegoer Weekly".

Each issue featured a star portrait on the cover and Joan actually appeared on 5 of its covers from 1953-1959. This cover is the first of those five, dated April 18, 1953. We have the other 4 issues in the library and these will be featured at later dates.

After 1296 issues of the magazine, it was on the 23rd April 1960 that Picturegoer appeared for the very last time.

Over the years Joan has won and also been nominated for many awards. This post will look at some of these starting back in 1956 when Picturegoer magazine announced Joan Collins was their "Girl Of The Year" The picture is from "The Girl In The Red Velvet Swing"

JConthecover: NZ Woman's Weekly (1984)

As fans will know, Joan has appeared on hundreds of magazines worldwide. On the subject of Dynasty today's magazine is a 1984 copy of New Zealand Woman's Weekly.
Joan appeared on the cover of this magazine several times over the years.

Featured below is an extract from the magazines 2 page article, "Dynasty - and the claws are out"

Ladies and gentlemen, soap fans everywhere. Take your seats for what promises to be a really absorbing contest. At stake - the title of queen of the soaps and with it the coveted superbitch belt.
In the red corner, the holder, red-hot Alexis, one time wife of Blake Carrington, super-suave millionaire. She wants him back but seems doomed to fail.

In the blue corner - that's blue as in icy-cold - the challenger Krystle, also a one-time wife of the busy Mr Carrington and soon to be again.
A word of warning - don't sit too near. This scrap might boil over out of the television arena and into real life.
New Zealand fans are now happily reconciled with the doings of the Dynasty set - having been left last year firmly glued to the edge of their seats as Krystle and Alexis faced death together ... trapped in a burning building.

Just as much heat is being generated by some of the twists the script takes in the new series as the rescued rivals continue their contest.
Well ahead on points at this stage is Krystle, but Alexis is not beaten yet.

And that is just another way of saying Linda Evans looks destined to become the leading light of the show, unless Joan Collins can come from behind. Now read on:

Dynasty Adverts

Over the years, as well as memorabilia, I have also collected press cuttings on Joan. I particularly liked the TV ads which used to appear in the US TV Guide magazine. Here is one from October 10, 1984 issue. Watch out for more of these and other cuttings in future posts.

Dynasty: Pictures

Joan as Alexis in one of the first Dynasty Press Session Photo's which was never published.

Following Joan's first appearance as Alexis, it wasn't long before she started appearing on magazine covers worldwide.

This Dutch issue called Veronica from May 1982 had the cast photo on the cover and a two page article inside.

With my collection of magazines continuously growing it was in September 2002, realising there was very little on the web, I created a site called JConthecover, which displayed magazines Joan had appeared on from 1951 - 2006. It proved very popular as it also featured articles and also UK newspapers when Joan had appeared on the front page. It ran until 2008 - which was my 25th Anniversary as a collector.

The idea of having a website featuring my collection had been on the "drawing board" for sometime, I realised that I had to include content from JConthecover site, and a few months later my new site, http://www.joancollinscollection.com/ was launched.

The magazine on the left is a copy of TV Guide from America dated 23 October 1982 and features Joan with Linda Evans on the cover. Inside was a 4 page article.

I will be featuring other magazines from my collection in future posts.
