JConthecover: Oggi (1983)

Today's cover is from the Italian magazine Oggi, dated 1 June 1983, and a cover that Joan has appeared on countless times, many of which I have in my collection. This picture is from the film Nutcracker, which I am also featuring in today's post.

Madame Tussards - London 1985

This press photo shows Joan at London's Madame Tussards Waxworks on 27th July 1985 after unveiling a waxwork of herself. This was the first time the Worldwide famous attraction had featured Joan.

I visited the next day, anxious to see the waxwork which was featured in a display in the Conservatory at the time, alongside Dame Edna Everage, and Dallas star Larry Hagman as JR.
Here are two photographs from my personal collection.

A second waxwork of Joan was commissioned in 1989 and I will feature details of this in a future post.

JConthecover: Unusual ?

Here it is as mentioned yesterday. Unfortunately as I don't speak Japanese I cannot give any write up on this cover, except to say it is probably 1950's. If anyone can shed any light on this, please post a comment.

JConthecover: Beverly Hills [213] (1983)

They say that every collector has a favourite item amongst their collection, and this cover from November 30th 1983 is one of mine from all the magazines I have, with a French/Polish cover to be featured in a future post coming in second.

The cover epitomizes style and sophistication, the gown that Joan is wearing was the one she wore at the Carousel Ball, in Season 4 episode 11, it was then used on the first waxwork of Joan at Madame Tussards in London. A great cover all round, hopefully other fans will agree.

Check tomorrows post for what I think is quite a rarity cover of Joan !!

Jconthecover: TV World (1965)

Today's magazine goes back 45 years and is a copy of TV World dated February 20 1965.
Featured on the cover are Herbert Lom star of The Human Jungle and Joan who was making her first appearance on British television, playing a girl who tries to kill herself, in the episode "Struggle For A Mind".

In the opening scenes a man finds Joan's character slumped at the bottom of the Underground escalator in a trance. Leaning her against a wall he tries to retrieve her handbag, the handle has got stuck in the moving escalator, when he returns she has gone.
We next see Joan still in a trance walking along removing her clothes. Note: this was a Saturday night programme in 1965 so no nudity was shown, and even when Joan removed her bra it was a cleverly lit silhouette against the underground posters.

The guy catches her trail picking up her discarded clothes and fellow passengers pass her on the stairs shocked that she is naked. Finally at the edge of the platform you see the headlight of the oncoming tube train approaching, and Joan's foot teetering on the edge .... ready to jump into the path of the train.

TV: Fantasy Island

This rare still shows Joan as Cleopatra when she guest starred in one episode of this series back in 1980.
Regular cast members were Ricardo Montalban (who later appeared in scenes with Joan as a guest in Dynasty as Zach Powers), and Herve Villechaize. The episode was called My Fair Pharoah, and Joan played Lucy Atwell who yearned to enter the "Fantasy" world of the Egyptian Queen, Cleopatra.

JConthecover: Parlee (1986)

This is the January 1986 issue of Parlee, an American Gay and Lesbian Guide for the Long Island, Fire Island, New York City & New Jersey Areas.
Joan features on the cover and inside a 2 page article, "Dynasty And Other Sins.

I do have another copy of this magazine which featured Joan on the cover, issued at the time of Dynasty The Reunion, and will feature this in another post.
