The Blog Is Back!!

Yes .... its back and firstly a Happy New Year to everyone and hope you had a good Christmas.

Its been a 6 month absence from the blog and web site, a big thank you to everyone who has been contacting me - I've tried to answer all the e-mails, apologies if I have missed anyone.  During the time I have moved house again and a lot of the collection has been in storage - but today being the first day of 2014 I thought would be good to get back on track.

There's lots to add to the site and a major update/revamp is on the cards for this year.  So keep checking back regularly - if there is anything in particular you like to see or ask about my collection, please get in touch.

Quite a few of your e-mails have highlighted that the magazine covers featuring Joan on a daily basis were popular and so that will return - and other requests have included a daily photo of Joan from my collection.  I have over 100 new photographs/stills to add to the site so will try and introduce that and another request was to highlight different items from my collection with links on the website - which sounds a great idea, plus there was a great deal of interest from my plans to feature Dynasty fashion pages.

Its great that Joan continues to be busy and I know her fans are thrilled about the release of her latest memoirs, 'Passion for Life', yes my partner bought me my copy for Christmas and I also have it downloaded on my Kindle.  Plus Joan going back into London's West End this year was more good news.  I saw the show 2 years ago and featured it on the blog - looking forward to seeing it again in February.

Thanks for following and your interest in my site/blog

Richard

On The Newstands - 28 February (Part 2)

29th February and continuing yesterday's post of magazines, this issue of German magazine Bunte from 2002 was one of many countries to feature Joan's wedding picture on their cover.

As mentioned yesterday, Joan and Percy chose English OK Magazine for the exclusive coverage of their wedding.

Our second magazine goes back to 1959, another English magazine called Picturegoer which Joan was featured on a number of times.

This issue was only a cover shot - I cannot find anything inside the magazine about her.

Le Lundi was a French magazine that featured Joan on their covers a number of times, and this issue from 1987 had a 4 page article inside.

The last one to feature in this post is actually more of a newspaper than magazine, called The Weekly News from 2004.

On The Newstand - 28 February (Part 1)

Looking back in the archives for today I have seven magazines. So I am going to feature 3 in today's post and as tomorrow is a leap year day will feature the other 4 and there were are not many magazines published on 29th February!!

Starting with 1983, this Spanish magazine TP Teleprograma featured Joan and the cast of Dynasty on their cover.

In 1989 this American issue of Globe is what we call a shared cover as Joan is not the only celebrity on the cover.

The magazine was featuring an article about Alexis slaying Blake with a butcher's knife in a forthcoming episode of Dynasty.

In 2002 OK Magazine was chosen by Joan and Percy for the Exclusive coverage of their wedding. Under the headline "All The Pictures The World Has Waited to See" they would appear in publications worldwide.

Remember to check tomorrow's post for Part 2 of these magazines which range from 1959 - 2004

On The Newstand - 26th February

Staying with Sins from yesterday's post - this German magazine, Freizeit Revue would have been for sale on newstands in Germany with Joan, full cover as Helene Junot from the mini series, Sins.

Inside was a 1 1/2 page article about her then divorce from husband no. 4, Peter Holm.

On The Newstands - 25th February

There were 2 magazines in the archives that would have been on sale on 25th February. The first is a UK magazine no longer in print, called Celebrity.

Although Joan was not featured full cover, the article inside this weekly publication was about a tremor that hit the set of Dynasty while Joan was filming Season 8 with James Healey (Sean Rowan).

The second magazine from 1989 was from France and called Tele Z and featured Joan on the cover as Helene Junot in the mini series, Sins.

On The Newstand - 24 February

I am featuring 3 magazines which you would have seen on the newstands today, 24th February, between 1983 & 1992

The next magazine is also Dutch, a magazine called Story (there was a Belgian magazine with this title and Joan also featured on their covers - these will be featured at later dates in the blog or can be found on the website)

On the Newstand - 18th February

Various countries featured Joan on their magazine covers on this day, so I am featuring four from my collection and they span a 50 Year period of Joan's career.

The first is from 1956, when Picture Show featured Joan on their cover with Farley Granger her co-star in the film "The Girl in The Red Velvet Swing"

The next magazine is from 1965, another English title, this time a TV magazine called "TV World", and Joan is featured on the cover with Herbert Lom star of "The Human Jungle" which she was guest starring in that weekend.

Now over to Austria, where in 1993 Joan was appearing at The Vienna Opera Ball which is an annual Austrian society event on the Thursday preceding Ash Wednesday.

This magazine Casino Express featured Joan on their cover in 1993.

Finally we move to 2006 and another English TV magazine called "TV Times" which followers of Joan will know have featured her on their cover numerous times.

Zoe Lucker shared the cover with Joan on this issue to launch the final series of Footballer's Wives, which Joan was to guest star in alongside her as magazine editor, Eva De Wolffe.

On The Newstands - 17 February

Staying with Germany, is today's magazine from 1984 called Neue Illustrierte Revue.

Joan is featured on the cover and the small insert picture of her with Michael Nader in the Dynasty bathtub scene refers to the 2 page article inside, "Was Joan Collins in der Badewanne trieb"

On The Newstands - 15th & 16th February

Apologies that these magazines did not appear on their respective dates, due to work commitments I was unable to write the daily post, so here is a double helping of covers featuring Joan.
The Irish magazine RTE Guide featured Joan on their cover three times. This one for the 15th February 1991 was to promote the Lifestyles series, "My Riviera" and features Joan with Sting

And on the 16th February 1990, the German magazine Gong, which featured Joan on their cover numerous times published this cover.

On the Newstands - 14th February 1987

The magazines section of my website continues to be popular with fans searching for covers that Joan has appeared on over the years. I have featured this a couple of times on the blog, and with many more covers in the archives I thought why not start the post again.
So today it's back 25 years to 1987 and a copy of the English magazine 'Woman' featuring Joan on the cover from the mini series Sins, wearing the Golden Ball costume. Check out tomorrow's post to see what magazine was on the newstands.

Bookstands Vs Newstands

Earlier this year I ran a daily feature called 'On The Newstands' which proved quite popular with many fans. With Joan's new book, 'The World According to Joan' now on sale, and with quite a few new titles added to my collection this year - I thought now is an ideal time to pick up this feature again.
Today's magazine goes back 24 years to September 6th 1987 and was a one day issue called You Magazine. This was published weekly with the English Sunday newspaper, The Mail on Sunday, and Joan featured on the cover a number of times and I have all the covers in my collection.

Clad in black leather inside was a 3 page article, "I'm Just An Old-Fashioned Girl" and as the year was 1987, her new mini-series, Sins was about to start on UK TV, so the article carried pictures from that too.

Check back tomorrow for another magazine from the archives.....

On the Newstands ... 28th March

As we near the end of the month, and the run of magazines featuring Joan on the daily newstands from years ago, this one is an Italian issue called Bolero from 1984. The cover is similar to a copy of What Investment that Joan featured on in April 1986, the only difference was the dress although same style was black and not blue. Inside is a 3 page article with photos from Dynasty.

On The Newstand - March 22

On The Newstand .... 5th March 1994

The magazine featured today is an English one called Chic, from March/April 1994, as I cannot locate the magazine from 5th March listed in my collection (I'm sure it will turn up!!)

This is the second issue of the magazine and inside is a 6 page profile of Joan, "La Collins: Still Sexy at 60", with colour pictures throughout.

Three years later, Joan would grace the cover of the magazine again for their June 1997 issue, which I will hopefully feature.

On the Newstands ....

Today's magazine is the March 1988 fifth anniversary issue of Vanity Fair, with Joan sharing the cover with sister Jackie.

The 6 page article,"Queens of the Road" includes the fabulous Annie Leibovitz photo 'Limo Scene'.

On the Newstands ....

The majority of the magazines featured on my website are Joan as the main celebrity, however there are some where she shares the cover, like today's magazine National Enquirer from 3rd March 1987.

Joan has appeared on the cover of this tabloid loads of times, and I will be featuring more in future posts. According to the one page article inside, this cover shows her entering the Los Angeles courtroom at the time of her divorce from husband #4, Peter Holm.

The article was entitled, "Peter Holm: I Love Joan Collins & Want Her Back!".

Fans of Bruce Willis will probably have this cover in their collection as he features top right.
