Daily Picture - James Farentino and Joan

Thanks to the people who e-mailed me with news that James Farentino passed away Tuesday 24th January 2012. To my knowledge there had been nothing on the news or in the tabloids. Dynasty fans will remember him as Dr Nicholas Toscanni in Dynasty (1982) as pictured below.
The second picture today from my collection is James as David Westfield when he appeared in the mini-series 'Sins' with Joan.
He also appeared in ER, Melrose Place, a TV Movie I own but have never seen, called The Naked Lie with Victoria Principal. In the 60's he appeared in Naked City, 77 Sunset Strip and Route 66. From 1966 - 1982 he was married to the actress Michele Lee from Knot's Landing. Age 73 at the time of his death, he leaves 2 sons David and Saverio and his widow Stella. Our thoughts are with his family, RIP David.

Daily Picture - Kissing Cousins?

This picture is the elevator scene in Dynasty with Joan and Stephanie Beacham as cousin Sable (or Sybil as Alexis liked to call her).
Every time Alexis pressed the button for the floor of her suite, Sable pressed the call button preventing the elevator from moving and giving her chance to tackle Alexis. Neatly written scene.

Dynasty - "Where did it go wrong Blake?"

Today's picture is from Dynasty Season 7, the late John Forsythe and Joan in the 2 part episode, "A Love Remembered".

Fans will recall this episode where last minute Ben rescues Blake who had been trapped under a steel beam on the oil rig. Blake and Ben narrowly escape the explosion, but Blake suffers amnesia and can only remember the year is 1964, and his wife Alexis.

So in true Alexis style (what else?) she tells the doctors at the Singapore hospital she is indeed Mrs Carrington and sets her sights on regaining half of the South China Sea Oil Leases back to her name.

This picture was also used as a promotion for the series on an American poster which I will add to the advertising section of the website. I think it was a great storyline, especially the part towards the end of the next episode when Blake recovers and realises he is married to Krystle and Alexis watches from the balcony of the villa has lost him, and it was just "A Love Remembered".

TV Adverts - Dynasty DVD

Todays post is this Dynasty advert for Season 1 and 2's release on DVD. Here in the UK we are eagerly awaiting the release of Season 7, hopefully it won't be too long.

Following on from yesterday's post of film adverts, which have been quite popular - thanks to those of you who sent e-mails. I'll also be adding a series of adverts to the website for Television Shows that Joan has appeared in/guest starred in.

Visitors to the site will know there is already a page dedicated to all the Dynasty adverts from US TV Guides that I have collected over the years.

Dynasty Daily

Most of the e-mails I receive from fans and people round the world at some stage usually ask the same question, "What do you collect of Joan?". The answer is "most things" and they cannot believe when I tell them how the collection which started with a serialisation from a National newspaper on the eve of Joan's 50th birthday back in 1983 has grown to what you see and more on the website.

I received an e-mail some weeks ago from someone who had come across the site asking if I could do a blog feature of Dynasty photos featuring Joan.
The answer would be "Yes"

Today's is a rather unusual picture of Joan with Linda during their first catfight in Alexis' studio. As you can see Alexis would grab anything to throw at Krystle - no vase remained safe when these two came to blows .....

Dynasty Photos

Having recently updated the layout of the Dynasty gallery on the website I received several e-mails asking if I had any new pictures of Joan from the show. The answer to this question is YES!!, I have several.

This lovely one was taken on set during filming of the last episode and shows Joan with Stephanie Beacham as Sable Colby and Michael Nader (Dex).

Judging by their smiles, not sure if they have already filmed the balcony plunge scene.

JContheCover(s) - News of the World Magazines 1985 - 1988

As mentioned in yesterday's post, in the 80's the News of the World newspaper regularly featured Joan on the cover of their magazine supplement, "Sunday". Yesterday, I featured the first in my collection, from 1984 - here are the other 5 as a tribute to the newspaper.

This first one from July 1985 was to promote the new mini series, Sins that Joan was producing and starring in. It featured an adaptation of the book by Judith Gould with pictures of Joan and the cast throughout.
The June 8, 1986 issue featured Joan as Madame Du Pompadour her choice of costume for the Masquerade party where Alexis brings Ben Carrington (Christopher Cazenove) back to Denver (Dynasty Season 6).
It was back to the mini series for the August 10, 1986 issue of the magazine, and the picture of Joan from Monte Carlo based on the novel by Stephen Sheppard. Inside was a 2 page article with pictures from the production.
The 1987 issue, dated February 8 featured an article about Joan's daughter Katy and her then divorce from husband number 4 - Peter Holm.
The last issue that I have in my collection was from November 1988 and featured Joan on the cover in Dynasty scenes with co-star Michael Nader (Dex Dexter). Inside a 1 1/2 page article, "I've Spent All My Life Trying to Please Men" about her marriages and then news and pictures from a forthcoming episode of Dynasty.

Thank you News of the World for some great covers of Joan over the years.

Daily Picture - Dynasty

It's a Dynasty picture today, from Season 2, Joan as Alexis is pictured with Pamela Sue Martin and Al Corley, who played the original Fallon & Steven.  Both left the series quite early on, Al's last screen appearance was in Episode 21 - "The Two Princes" and Pamela Sue stayed until the end of Season 4 in 1984.  They were both reunited in the 25th Anniversary special "Catfights & Caviar", and I will be featuring photos from that on the blog and website very soon.

Wedding Fever - Dynasty Style

Dynasty had its own Royal Wedding when Alexis's daughter Amanda married Prince Michael of Moldavia, as shown on this issue of the American magazine, Evening Soaps.
Then who could forget Alexis's marriage to Cecil Colby ?

And in Season 5 when Alexis walked up the aisle again this time on the arm of Dex Dexter ...... Yes, Dynasty had its share of weddings!!

Dynasty Adverts

Back in May 2010 and again when Season 5 was released on DVD in the UK, I featured on the blog some of the adverts that had appeared in the US TV Guide magazines.

I have now added all those in my collection to the website starting with this one, the first to feature Joan as Alexis, dated 4 November 1981.  They can be found under advertising in the Dynasty Galleries section.

Dynasty - "The Will"

This 1982 still from Dynasty shows Joan as Alexis being comforted by Jeff Colby (John James) at the hospital where once the bride now the grieving widow tries to come to terms with the death of her new husband, Cecil Colby having suffered a second heart attack shortly after the ceremony.

Check out other photographs on the Dynasty pages of my website.

Dynasty Advert

This was the advert that Roger Grimes, Mark Jennings, Dex Dexter and Sean Rowan probably would have seen!!

I came across this in a recent sort out of the collection, I have no idea of date or where it originated from, if anyone has any ideas (keep them clean!), please let me know.

On the Newstand .... March 17th

Today's magazine is a first from this country to feature on my blog. As you know the idea is to highlight magazines that Joan has featured on worldwide, so far we've had American, French, Canadian, Dutch and of course mine and Joan's home country, England.

So today its back 24 years to 1987 and this magazine from Chile called TV-Grama. The 2 page article inside is written in Spanish (and although my Spanish is not brilliant) seems to be a comparison on what actresses like Joan in primetime series were paid at that time.

From the list of 20 actors and actresses, Joan comes in 6th place (5th was Patrick Duffy from Dallas and joint 7th place went to Linda Evans and Lee Majors). For those interested top of the list was Larry Hagman in Dallas.

On the Newstand .... March 16

Today's magazine is American from 1982 and staying with yesterday's Dynasty theme, this time Joan shares the cover with Pamela Sue Martin and Linda Evans.
Inside a 6 page article, "Dynasty's Lustful Ladies"
